Karra block

Karra block is one of the six administrative blocks of Khunti district, Jharkhand state, India.

It is situated nearly 35 km from Dhurwa sector-2 of Ranchi and 18 km from Khunti district which has its district office. Nearby famous places of attraction is Sai Gram where Sai Baba mandir is there and Aamreshwar Dham also known as Angrabari where a lot many temples are there mainly a Lord Shiva temple. Aamreshwar Dham gathers a large number of devoties in Savan month as per Hindu calender it is sacred month of Lord Shiva. Karra is known for its ancient linkage with utter pradesh when merchants 'sahu' came here from Gazipur of UP and settled here. Here a lot many tola (a group of household living in close proximity) are there namely Nawkel, Dakghar, Baraiktoli, Station, Mahto toli, Masmano, Karra Chawk etc. A number of temples made by people of Karra at different span of time exist now, such as Durga Ghar and Devi guri in Mahato toli; Shiva temple of Dakghar, Nawkel and Karra Block; famous Devi guri temple of Nawkel(also pronounced Longkel) made by a devotee of high esteem and vision Sri Janki Sahu and a temple at Sonmer. Karra also see two Churches and two Mosques in its land. Primarily they started agriculture work but letter they shifted to trade of local goods like Mahua, Tamarind, Madua(ragi), Dhan(paddy) etc to wholesale markets in Ranchi and Lakhanow (UP). Majority of people here are Munda, Oraon and Christians converted from tribes especially Mundas. Other people are Rajput (Ganjhu), Bania, Halwai, Brahmins, Dhobi, Chamar, Nai, Muslims, etc. Karra is very famous for sweet potatoes as it is produced in large quantity and exported to markets outside Jharkhand state also.
